Meet Alan Richel

Alan Richel, 18 year resident of the Village of Alden Bridge, The Woodlands, has declared his candidacy for the position of Director, Position #6, on the Board of Directors of The Woodlands Township.

Alan, retired as a Senior International Trade Specialist after 19 years with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s US and Foreign Commercial Service, overall served 34 years in the U.S. Federal Government, with additional assignments in the US. Department of Transportation’s Urban Mass Transportation Administration (now the Federal Transit Administration), and the US General Services Administration   He has additional years in the private sector, having also worked for Xerox, FedEx, and a start-up firm that imported school buses from Slovenia.

Having worked in management in the US Department of Transportation, he brings a wealth of experience that can be directly applied to the position at hand.  He worked alongside State and local governments and transit authorities that pursued public transportation grants from his agency.   He has experience with: metropolitan planning organizations, capital and operating budgets, evaluating feasibility studies, environmental assessments, and Environmental Impact Statements.  He evaluated the grants that brought light rail transit to St. Louis, Missouri.

He also served several years  on a Condominium Board of Directors in Chicago.

He has an MBA in management and marketing from Loyola University of Chicago and a BA and MA in International Affairs from the George Washington University.

The key issue facing The Woodlands that interests Mr. Richel the most is whether or not The Woodlands need incorporate as a City, and if so, when.  While the concept of The Woodlands being a city with all the rights and privileges that affords is an attractive one, he is more concerned with keeping taxes low while maintaining or improving our standard of living and the array of services in our community.

With the wealth of experience and public service that Mr. Richel brings to the position of Township Director, he will work to ensure that all citizens of The Woodlands get their biggest bang for the buck.  He is completely independent and is not tied in any way to any special interests such as real estate developers.  His only special interest is to see that The Woodlands continues to be the premier community that it is today for many years to come.
